Eaton MEDC of Oddicroft Lane, Sutton In Ashfield chose John Eastwood Hospice as their charity to support for the last quarter of 2018. With dress up days, raffles, tombolas and quizzes, they presented an amazing £631.27.
Yvonne, Landlady of the White Hart, Ollerton generously presents £502 from their fundraising over the Christmas period including a Christmas jumper day. After recently taking over the pub, Yvonne is keen to continue fundraising for the hospice with plans already for the next event.
Hazel McPherson is fundraising by cycling the Devon Coast to Coast Bike Ride 2019 - 100 miles from Ilfracombe to Plymouth for John Eastwood Hospice Trust because today Dad died of cancer & I inherited his bike. 2nd April 2016 (his 63rd birthday) my Dad was diagnosed with aggressive, advanced prostate cancer. After only a few days of letting that news sink in, he decided to face it head on and fight! He stopped drinking alcohol and coffee, stopped eating red meats and refined sugars, ate only organic food. He swapped his traditional pedal cycle for an electric assisted mountain bike and went out and had some wonderful adventures for as long as he could. Dad absolutely loved his bike and getting outdoors. He would ride miles and miles in a day. Often telling people later on that he used to ride 60 miles a day and how could he get better so he could do that again. Cancer took away so much from Dad. His freedom, his future, his ability to walk, and later some of his cognitive functions. But it never, ever, took his courage, spirit or bravery. On the 22nd August 2018, he finally stopped fighting. John Eastwood hospice cared for Dad in his last few weeks with us. They also have cared for me, my brother and my Mum in an indirect way. The hospice relies 100% on donations and yet it is such an important piece of our healthcare in the UK. Please give generously to continue the help and support they offer to patients and their families throughout very difficult times. Dad rode the Devon Coast to Coast a few years ago and asked if I wanted to do it with him. I’m overweight, unfit, have a dodgy knee and a cheap bike that gathers dust. I politely declined. Today (22nd August 2018) I inherited Dad’s bike and I am going to ride that coast to coast on his bike to raise money for John Eastwood hospice in April 2019. But I’m also going to make sure that I continue to have adventures on Dad’s bike far beyond this ride, because he would have enjoyed that, and so will I. Keep track of the adventures at www.phishpie.co.uk To make a donation, please sponsor me at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dc2c2019
This morning I visited the John Eastwood Hospice to hear about the amazing work they do in our community. So many people and their families have been touched by this place, and I hope to be able to support them in the future.
The new Hospice car park has been constructed solely for the benefit of the hospice staff, patients and visitors to the Hospice at considerable expense to the John Eastwood Hospice Trust. We would really appreciate it if this was not taken advantage of by Kings Mill Hospital staff, patients and visitors. The Hospice Trust is a registered Charity in Sutton In Ashfield providing Specialist palliative care services to patients aged 18 and above. As a registered charity we have to raise approximately £400,000 per year to continue to provide services to the local community .
Well done, once again, to the Specsavers, Sutton team, in December they raised £300 for John Eastwood Hospice and £50 for Save the Children UK. Always a fabulous team of fundraisers.
